For our Senior Capstone Seminar, our class decided to expand upon ideas from the class members of the previous semester. They formed a campaign called ALL INtegrity, which was based upon spreading the idea of ethics beyond just the academic sphere. We wanted to build on this campaign and set forth the tools needed to establish it in the long-term.

Our class was split into different groups: Marketing, PR/Social Media, Event Planning, Research, Video, and Communication. I decided to join the Event Planning team because of my love of planning events, obviously, and because I knew this would be where I could make the biggest impact.

As a team, our very first step was to decide what kind of event we wanted to have. We knew it needed to be something that was easy for people to come to as well as had long-lasting effects. After days of brainstorming and sorting through many ideas, we came up with the idea to have two different pledge days. During these days, we would set up on different parts of campus and ask those walking past to take a pledge to be ethical with their behavior. They were asked to sign their name on pledge forms after liking our Facebook page. We found that using Facebook enabled us to educate those taking the pledge as well as keeping them accountable for their pledge.

Our team specifically took on the role of coordinating the logistics of the event as well as getting donations. Donations were key to the event's success because that was what got the attention of the students busy on their way to class. I definitely worked in the donation realm of the team securing donations from BGR, TD's, and Aspen Heights. Beyond the initiative to work toward donations, I also became the group liaison. In this role, I gathered with members from the other groups to discuss our plans and the progress we were making. WIthout this, the class would not have been unified about the goals of our event and campaign and thus would've failed. It was key to make sure everything and everyone was on the same page, especially from a branding standpoint. Through the time spent in this class, I explored and expanded many skill sets. First and foremost were my event planning skills. I had planned events before, but it was mostly just the logistics – not coming up with the actual event and how it would work. I also did not ever plan an event over this extensive of a time period. Beyond the event planning, I also explored teamwork, organizational skills, time management, branding, and self-motivation. For more details on these skills and how I worked to enhance them, please click here to see the 'Skills Gained' tab.

This Senior Capstone Seminar helped prepare me for my future career in advertising and marketing. I did not join the Marketing team because I wanted something where I could make a bigger impact as well as experience something out of my comfort zone. I gained valuable knowledge about planning events and what it takes to coordinate such a widespread campaign using a large amount of people. Valuable lessons were learned such as the importance of time management and the best ways to coordinate a group of people with one common goal. Self-motivation played a key in this project being successful, and this is also something that will be essential to any future career. Each skill set that was molded during this project has the capacity to help me in my future career and is hands-on experience that few other students have gained during their college education.

I believe that my work in this class has demonstrated 'A' material. My work ethic has been successful and I have gone above and beyond in every class. I feel as though I added a valuable role to my team with my work both in class and outside of class, showing that I took on extra responsibility. I have taken on this project in an effort to take my part in helping it become successful. I have really enjoyed watching this entire campaign come together through our classes participation, and I look forward to watching the campaign grow in future years to come.
